1. Discuss at least three things you would want to make sure your students understand about being good digital citizens.
Every comment is valuable.
Not everyone agrees with your point of view.
It is healthy to comment on points that you disagree with and it can be done in a proper manner without offending the author.
2. Share at least one of the resources mentioned above or on the Ed Tech website that you plan to use instructionally. Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship Presentations for Students, Parents and Teachers
3. Explain briefly how you would "teach" the idea of digital citizenship to your students. I would teach this idea by on their first assignment me making negative or snide remarks to their post and then discussing how those felt. Then I would give an assignment where they had to disagree with a person's point of view and have them practice doing so respectfully.
4. Explain briefly how you plan to share the idea of digital citizenship with your parents. I can share this idea with parents in my syllabus and on my website.
Why do you think it is important to tie the technology to the objective? Technology has to be tied to the objective, if not it is almost as if you are completing busy work. You want the technology to assist with the learning not to be there just to say it was there.
Why should we hold students accountable for the stations/centers? Students should be held accountable for the stations and centers because they are there to benefit them.
Visit 2 of the applicable links to interactive websites for your content/grade level. Which sites did you like. How could you use them as stations? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? Didn't find any tech or busy sites.
List two to three apps you found for the iPod Touch/iPad that you can use in your classroom. What do you see that station looking like? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? TED Air and Twitter. Students can be held responsible by having to comment throughout the course of watching presentations and making comments on Twitter and responding to their classmates.
What about other ways to use the iPod Touch/iPad? Share another way you can see your students using the device as a station. Designing and sharing video projects.
The project that I create will be one that discusses culture. This project will be implemented during our study of culture. We will use different video creators to produce videos and Skype to discuss the videos with students in other cultures after they are viewed. We will mainly use Skype and Animoto as our resources although other tools are allowed.
My students will select a culture in another state or country and research it. They will then create a video that depicts what they believe that culture is like. They can use costumes, music and other forms to show what they perceive the culture to be like. Students will also make a video about their culture.
Once the videos are made, they will be shared with students in the other classrooms. Students will then watch the videos made by the students in the culture they were portraying. At the end, the students will come together via videoconference, using Skype and discuss the perceptions and truths of each others culture.
I have a skype and a poll everywhere account. I could see using these, but again, there are other tools that already make it easier through moodle. One that is developing is the big blue button. With this tool, I could teach my class from an off-site location, by my students logging in to my website and watching as I went through the lesson. I would be notified when they had questions and they can video conference and chat real time. It also enable me to make them the screen caster so they could share with others. This would be really handy for those that cannot make it to class because they are ill.
I might be able to use some of the video tools for my website, but the limitations of a minute with the unpaid version our insane. I guess if I wanted to break things down into a ton of little clips I could do that, but that is insane as well. We expect students to be able to pay attention for longer than a minute. I know that society is going against that, but we have to train ourselves and our students to focus for a little longer period of time.
